Stevie Ray Vaughan

Texas native Stevie Ray Vaughan , with his band Double Trouble, revitalized the blues in the 80's with a powerful, energetic guitar style that blended influences as diverse as Jimi Hendrix and Albert King. Stevie was, simply put, a "tone god," with a massive, monstrous attack on his heavily strung '59 Fender Stratocaster; yet he was also capable of deftly turning to subtle, jazz influenced playing. Widely admired for his playing, Stevie overcame drug addiction and personal demons, but died tragically in a helicopter crash August 27, 1990.
